Northwest Kidney Kids
Northwest Kidney Kids Family Camp Report 2015
This year NW Kidney Kids hosted one of the largest Family Kidney Camps with 43 families with 175 campers attending our “Around the World” themed camp August 7th-9th. Camp was held at Aldersgate Camps and Retreats in Turner, OR which offers numerous amenities including but not limited to a 32-foot climbing wall, waterslide, inner tube creek float, newly remodeled indoor gym, tree swing, table games and a playground.

NWKK Family CampThis year camp featured annual "Kidney Kids Got Talent" on Friday night where campers performed with their groups or alone with talents as singing, dancing, karate and skits. During the day Saturday and Sunday campers participated in organized activities and sports including karate lead by a local studio owner. Campers had fun creating crafts, getting their faces painted and spending time with their families at Aldersgate before Saturday night Latin themed "fiesta". Entertainment featured an authentic Cuban Band that gave many of our families a chance to experience something completely different and new.

A large focus of our programming is ensuring not only that children and families have fun but to provide meaningful and impactful programming for parents. According to post camp evaluations, 87% made meaningful connections with parents, 97% learned more about managing their child’s kidney disease and 100% were able to engage in meaningful recreation with their children! Also, when parents were asked if they would attend future Kidney Family Camps, the answers were a unanimous yes. These numbers tell us that we not only reached our camp goals to help empower these families but with the help of your funding we are able to provide programming that families enjoy and want to continue participating in. A few things parent's stated they enjoyed most about camp this year included "talking to other parents", "ideas provided during group conversations", "meeting more people from my area" and "my child seeing other kids with the same scars as her and connecting with them".

Camp could not have been possible without our wonderful dedicated volunteers and counselors who offered support with well over 500 hrs of service for Camp. Your generosity made this impactful and life changing experience possible for teens dealing with chronic kidney disease. With your support NW Kidney Kids, Inc. continues to "Empower Kidney Kids for Lifelong Success". Thank you for all that you do for this organization and those we serve.
