Young Ambassadors of NW Kidney Kids
By Nicolas LaHusen

Still in it’s infancy, as a second year program, the Young Ambassadors or YA are already looking to be a staple of our amazing community. What are YA you might be asking yourself? Young Ambassadors are Kidney Kids, older than 18, who have come back to serve in more active roles as volunteers and as those that would give us insight on how to build programs and engagement around what others like them have gone through with similar lived experiences. In short, they are the voice of those we serve.

We’re always looking for more YA to fill the ranks and help give back to the community, but what does that mean for a YA? Young Ambassadors will help make our online community like Camp, but all year round, sparking engagement in our new Discord! NW Kidney Kid’s Discord has many details of it’s own and will be featured in the next blog post, but to put it simply - it’s a place where NW Kidney Kids and YA have fun with recreational activities in a safe interconnected environment, educate ourselves about each other and the condition we live with, and flex our creative muscle with community partners and even monthly prompts!

NW Kidney Kid’s YA Program has other opportunities for those who have been with the program a time and have shown their dedication to excellence and engagement. A paid stipend position as a Leader of Engagement or LoE! We are also hosting professional development workshops once every quarter with the help of community partners and staffers alike! All YA will be trained with Mentoring Skills to help them both within the Discord and also to help them with relationships for all their future endeavors - many will even be helping with the Mentoring Program to provide peer support for our Youth! To

To say the least, it’s a great program for everyone involved, so if you are 18-26, have either been a Kidney Kid in the past, have CKD or are Post Transplant, or are a sibling of such a person and would like to join the YA Program then please email Nicholas at nicholas@nwkidneykids.org and he will help you go through the process.
